Another complication on what replaces CAPTCHAs is Google removing third party cookies and device fingerprinting next year.
That's going to make current device and behavioral CAPTCHA solutions less effective as well. And also have a negative impact on serving ads.
Apps and content publishers are going to be very incentivized to make sure users are logged in on a "high trust" account.
